All of the 3 students who graduated with a Bachelor’s in fashion studies from FIDM Los Angeles in 2021 were women. How would you describe the FIDM student community?

ASU’s fashion program will now be named ASU FIDM, incorporating both the FIDM community and campus, and it will operate in both Los Angeles and Phoenix. Part of the stimulating campus life at FIDM comes from career guidance, student activities that include challenging projects, exposure to industry experts, and cultural experiences. At FIDM Los Angeles, approximately 53% of students took out student loans averaging $7,163 a year.

The dedicated section enables rising talents to present their work, giving as much visibility as possible to this upcoming and talented generation of the fashion industry. The ASU fashion program offers state-of-the-art technology at Fusion on First in downtown Phoenix. As the class of 2024 completes their academic journey in becoming fashion professionals, the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) recently showcased the graduates' final collections with huge success. Stepping into the fashion industry, those collections play a crucial role for graduates to expand their network and share their work. Today, thanks to more than a thousand generous donors, the ASU FIDM Museum holds over 15,000 fashion objects dating primarily from the eighteenth century to the present, and 200,000 Special Collections artifacts. And perhaps more crucial to her, Gervase was seeking a bachelor’s degree, and not one from ASU, which she considered a party school. Silverstein has been trying to petition FIDM leaders to end a new scholarship program with Shein, an ultra-fast-fashion company that’s repeatedly come under scrutiny for working conditions and its environmental footprint. Though she supports scholarships for her classmates, she said Shein as a company contradicts what FIDM teaches about the future of fashion. Lexy Silverstein, a digital marketing student at FIDM, has heard inklings about this potential partnership and said she could be affected, depending when it is implemented. Gervase, who’s originally from Murrieta, dropped her FIDM classes soon after meeting with her counselor, worried the spring quarter would become more wasted time. She’d already transferred to FIDM from Fullerton Community College, and many of her credits were not accepted by the fashion school.
